(Correspondent MIAO Qi) Recently, discussions on advancing degree programs were held by School of Materials Science and Chemistry, School of Geography and Information Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Mathematics and Physics, School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, School of Arts and Communication and Gemological Institute. Faculty leaders, vice deans in charge of degree programs, leading talents of the discipline, and vice dean and staff members of Graduate School joined the discussions. Faculties attached great importance to the events, hoping to take the degree programs to the next level with a joint effort.
Topics such as student learning research, comparative analysis of the current situation of CUG degree programs and follow-up plans, job distribution, roles and responsibilities were exchanged. Leaders and panel put forward constructive opinions and suggestions after intense and productive discussions from three perspectives, including: national development strategy, demands for regional development and strategic discipline layout.
WANG Lei, vice dean of Graduate School, emphasized that advancing degree program is a long-term process with delayed effects and requires unremitting efforts. Tailored, stepwise follow-up plans should be made; work should be tracked, and responsible should be assumed. Wang suggested that such discussions and evaluation training on the program where renowned experts are expected be a routine. She also said that because the application of degree authorization is expected, we should know where we stand and what we should do to improve degree programs from the inside out. We should dive into the mainstream and leverage our own strengths. Meanwhile, she promised that as a coordinator, a mediator and an administrator, Graduate School would be supportive and work hard to see breakthroughs in the application process, hence laying a solid foundation for advancing CUG Double First-Class Project and for achieving the school’s high-quality development.
